Happy 100th Birthday Professor John Ingraham
The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics celebrated the 100th birthday of Professor Emeritus John Ingraham with a reception attended by friends and family of Professor Ingraham as well as many active and retired department faculty.
Professor Ingraham was born in Northern California and obtained his undergraduate and graduate education at UC Berkeley, conducting his dissertation research with Professor Roger Stanier. He joined UC Davis in 1958, and our department in 1962 conducting pioneering research in yeast and bacteria until his retirement in 1990. Serving also as department chair in the 1970s, he left an important intellectual footprint in the department. Professor Ingraham influenced microbiology at many levels, through his groundbreaking research, by mentoring many scientists to highly successful academic careers, by authoring noted textbooks, and by serving as president of the American Society for Microbiology.
We were delighted to celebrate Professor John Ingraham and his achievements on the occasion of his 100th birthday.
Congratulations John, and many more years to come in health and good spirit.
