Years of Service

On behalf of the entire Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, faculty chair Wolf Heyer would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Catherine Strong and Sharon Boylan for important milestones in their professional careers.

Catherine Strong is recognized for completing 25 years of service in the department, where she is leading the support team for all microbiology laboratory courses and coordinates laboratory safety in the entire department. We greatly appreciate her dedicated efforts, initiative, and attention to detail. We look forward to working together with Catherine for many years to come.

Dr. Sharon Boylan (Ph.D. 1979, University of Michigan) is recognized for 35 years of service at UC Davis and decided to retire this summer to focus on family and travel. After a successful academic career as a postdoctoral fellow at UC Davis, it was very fortunate for our department that Sharon decided to switch into administration, where she leaves an indelible imprint of competence and dedication. In fact, her contribution to the MMG team are so critical that she graciously agreed to be recalled to shepherd the renewal of the T32 Training Program in Oncogenic Signals and Chromosome Biology and one last season to assist with personnel actions and provide instructional support.

While the current circumstances forbid an in-person ceremony to recognize their achievements (sorry no real cake, please join me in congratulating Catherine and Sharon in the digital format of your choice.

Best wishes,
Wolf-Dietrich Heyer
