How DNA is swapped between chromosomes during meiosis

Holliday junction

In the Oct. 22 edition of Nature, a paper from the laboratory of Professor Neil Hunter presents a breakthrough in understanding how DNA is swapped between chromosomes during the formation of eggs and sperm. Their discovery that DNA crossing over resembles the initial steps of a DNA-repair process called mismatch repair helps resolve a decades old question.  [article on our College site]
