Congratulations to Professors Samuel Díaz-Muñoz and Chang-il Hwang

Effective July 1, 2025, Samuel Díaz-Muñoz and Chang-il Hwang are promoted to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure at the University of California, Davis. Through their research and teaching Sam invigorates virology in the department studying mainly influenza viruses and their interactions in what they termed sociovirology. Chang-il’s teaching and research significantly strengthens cancer biology in MMG, and his genetic and epigenetic studies using an organoid model he developed are at the forefront of pancreatic cancer research. The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics congratulates Sam and Chang-il for their achievements in teaching and research that led to a well-deserved promotion.
